In January 2023, we received an exciting call that felt like a dream come true—Gone Fishing wanted to film a grooming session with the beloved Ted, Bob Mortimer’s adorable canine companion. The plan was to film in May, and we were thrilled to be a part of such a special show. However, at the last minute, unforeseen circumstances led to the shoot being postponed by a whole year. While we were disappointed, the delay only built up the excitement for when it finally happened!
Earlier this year, we had the pleasure of meeting Rob, the director, and Andre, the producer, for a pre-filming catch-up, which was an absolute blast. Both were incredibly down-to-earth, and we had a great time getting to know them. Their passion for the show and for making Ted’s grooming experience special was clear from the start.
The Big Day at Wagtails of the Wolds
When the long-awaited filming day arrived, our team at Wagtails of the Wolds was ready to give Ted the ultimate star treatment. To make sure the Gone Fishing crew felt welcome, we put on a mid-morning spread of delicious treats to keep everyone energized and in good spirits throughout the day. There were smiles all around as the filming began, and Ted was an absolute gem from start to finish.
Ted’s Star Treatment
We kicked off Ted’s pampering session with a relaxing blueberry facial. This treatment not only left him smelling amazing but also provided key benefits for his skin and coat. The blueberry facial is packed with antioxidants, helping to cleanse, exfoliate, and brighten the fur around the eyes, while also removing tear stains. It left Ted looking refreshed and picture-perfect for the cameras.
Next, we treated him to a soothing mobility mud bath and massage. Given Ted’s age and active lifestyle, this was the perfect way to ease his joints and help him feel relaxed. The mud bath helps reduce inflammation, improves circulation, and provides relief for achy muscles. Ted was in heaven, clearly enjoying the calming massage that followed. It was the ideal way to help him recharge after his Gone Fishing adventures.
Once he was fully relaxed, we bathed Ted in our high-quality organic shampoo and conditioner. At Wagtails of the Wolds, we use only organic, wellbeing-based products that are gentle on the dogs and designed to nourish their coats. Ted’s fur felt silky smooth and clean after his bath, and we carefully blow-dried and brushed out his coat to ensure it was perfectly soft and tangle-free.
The final step in Ted’s grooming was the styling. We made sure his coat was expertly trimmed and styled, so he looked camera-ready for the rest of his filming week. Ted was the picture of perfection as he left our salon, looking and feeling like the star he is.
Working with Bob Mortimer and the Film Crew
Meeting Bob Mortimer was one of the highlights of the experience. He was every bit as warm and funny as we imagined, and it was clear just how much he adores Ted. Bob took the time to chat with us and was genuinely interested in the grooming process, showing great affection for his furry best friend. The film crew was equally lovely, working seamlessly around Ted’s grooming session while capturing the perfect shots for the episode.
A Career Highlight
Being part of the Gone Fishing episode was truly a highlight in our career at Wagtails of the Wolds. The opportunity to groom Ted and work with such a fantastic team made the entire experience unforgettable. From the blueberry facial to the mud bath massage, we made sure Ted received the royal treatment and seeing him strut out of our salon looking like a superstar made it all worth it.
